Protenus Employee Values Spotlight

Kylie Taylor, Director of Sales Development

Our mission at Protenus is to advance the science of healthcare by bringing together creative and skilled individuals who are passionate about the security, usability, and applicability of health data. As this information becomes more voluminous, comprehensive, and, as a consequence, more vulnerable, we are building scalable, insightful solutions that address critical issues preventing the efficient, safe, and effective delivery of patient care.

Our team comprises a diverse group of people who come together to achieve this shared mission. To give a glimpse into our culture and highlight the diversity of our team, we’ve asked Kylie Taylor, Director of Sales Development, to share more about her experience working at Protenus.

What's your role at Protenus, and what do you do?

I am the Director of Sales Development at Protenus. In my role, I serve two primary functions. I have the privilege of leading our business development team as they focus on identifying new business opportunities for Protenus, and I also spearhead all of the training and development for the entire Protenus sales team.

What did you do before coming to Protenus?

I’ve spent the majority of my career (more than 15 years) supporting hospitals and health systems across the country in various capacities. Most recently, though, I worked for an organization that helped improve safety, quality, caregiver engagement, and patient experience in hospitals and health systems. I supported large enterprise clients in Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. I also served in a training and development capacity for the sales team.

What initially attracted you to Protenus?

I was attracted to the impact the Protenus platform has on hospitals, ensuring privacy and compliance, as well as reducing risk, while protecting the safety of caregivers and patients. I need to work for a company that I feel makes a difference in the world every day, and it was clear to me early on that Protenus is positioned to make a significant impact in healthcare in a way that is new and innovative.

What's your favorite part of your job?

Feeling like I make a difference every single day. I get to lead an incredibly talented and professional team that is passionate about the growth and success of our company. I also get to make sure that every person on our sales team has all of the tools, solutions, and resources they need to successfully grow our business and support our customers. Having that kind of impact each day is what keeps me excited and motivated!

What's the most important thing you've learned since starting at Protenus?

My title means nothing...and that’s a good thing! Protenus is currently at a stage where each employee has a significant impact on our evolution and growth. Even though I am the Director of Sales Development, I try to participate in projects and contribute wherever I can because I know it will make a difference. I’ve found that this is consistent throughout our company and culture — no one says, “That’s not my job.” Instead, people are willing to step up and contribute. I’ve learned that collaboration is not only possible but it’s critical when you are growing quickly as a company.

How has working at Protenus impacted your career?

Protenus has provided me with an opportunity to understand healthcare from a different perspective, to better understand compliance, and to familiarize myself with technology that I believe will have a significant  impact on the industry moving forward. Protenus has also empowered me to grow as a leader by giving me autonomy in my role along with the resources I need to be successful.

What has surprised you the most about working at Protenus?

I’ve been surprised by how much I enjoy(ed) working in an office! I began working at Protenus about six months prior to our office shutting down due to COVID-19. Prior to that, I had worked from home or traveled consistently for more than 10 years. I was initially hesitant to commute to an office again when I started with Protenus, however, I quickly came to appreciate not only the culture of our office, but how much easier it is to get things done when you are able to collaborate with teammates in person versus over the phone or Zoom. I think my prior years working from home have made the transition back to working from home easier, but I definitely miss being in the office every day with my peers, coworkers, and friends.

In 10 words or less, how would you describe the culture at Protenus?
