Our team comprises a diverse group of people who come together to achieve this shared mission. To give a glimpse into our culture and highlight the diversity of our team, we’ve asked Ruchi Mullasserril, Director of Software Engineering, to share more about her experience working at Protenus.
What's your role at Protenus, and what do you do?
Protenus is at a very pivotal point in its growth journey and recently initiated a tech ops transformation to adapt and scale with demand. As a Director of Engineering, I have the privilege of leading a very talented group of engineers in supporting our platform infrastructure and data. My role is to leverage and implement best practices in software development to improve our flow of value to customers by removing impediments that impact team productivity, coaching and mentoring teams, and maximizing efficiency and collaboration across groups.
What did you do before coming to Protenus?
I bring 20-plus years of engineering experience to Protenus, including 15 years at Fannie Mae, where I held multiple roles. Most recently, I led multiple engineering teams to deliver high-value technical solutions for several complex initiatives in finance and capital markets by connecting the dots between business and technology.
What initially attracted you to Protenus?
When I looked at Protenus, I found it to be the best of many worlds for me. First, patient privacy is important to everyone, and data security and privacy is at the center of everything at Protenus. Second, I am amazed by how the Protenus solution truly harnesses the power of data by using AI and machine learning to tell a story and tackle the biggest healthcare compliance challenges. Third, in my conversations with the Protenus team, the culture really stood out. I could tell that Protenus was a well-knit family whose leadership was truly committed to the well-being of its people.
What's your favorite part of your job?
It is so invigorating to work with the amazing people at Protenus. Regardless of their titles, everyone at Protenus is so welcoming and approachable. I have been here for just over four weeks, and I already feel like part of the family.
What's the most important thing you've learned since starting at Protenus?
It is well known that a good onboarding plan plays a key role in the success of your new journey. The onboarding experience at Protenus takes it to another level. At Protenus, the people operations and hiring teams collectively develop a comprehensive blueprint of your first two weeks. All the key meetings are scheduled in advance, including introductions, team meetings and meet-and-greets with careful thought given to who and when. Access is already provisioned to every business system relevant to your role. Clear 30-60-90-day expectations are set. In-depth training materials to better understand the market, company strategy and goals are provided. You really hit the ground running on Day 1.
How has working at Protenus impacted your career?
I am a lifelong learner and a true believer in the power of exploring new domains. After working in the telecommunications and finance sectors, Protenus is my venture into the startup and healthcare world. I could not be more excited about this opportunity to further diversify my experience.
What has surprised you the most about working at Protenus?
Diversity of talent at Protenus. It is not often that you see people with such varying skills and experiences coming together as a cohesive unit to build a market-leading platform.
