Tamanna Chopra, Software Engineer

Our team is comprised of a diverse group of people who come together to achieve this shared mission. To give a glimpse into our culture and highlight the diversity of our team, we’ve asked Tamanna Chopra, Software Engineer, to share more about her experience working at Protenus.

What’s your role at Protenus, and what do you do?

As a Software Engineer at Protenus, I'm part of multiple teams that develop and implement our platform. I collaborate with people across the entire company to complete critical data engineering tasks such as data mapping and parsing of healthcare data. By working on these critical elements of our platform, I’ve gained a holistic view of the company and product. While at Protenus, I’ve also been fortunate to learn and contribute to major engineering efforts such as algorithms that generate alerts and new customer features. 

What did you do before coming to Protenus? 

I was a Software Engineer at Microshare, a Philadelphia-based startup. I worked with different Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), stream processing solutions, and Internet of Things (IoT) data. My major contributions were Philadelphia Trolley Works (PTW) Live Bus Tracking Application, integration of Apache Kafka to perform event logging and enable scalable data streaming, and implementing a platform-wide OAuth capability to enhance the platform’s security. 

What initially attracted you to Protenus?

During my senior year of college, I worked on an award-winning healthcare solution which sparked my interest in the industry. After graduation, I knew I wanted to be part of a company that was solving important problems with an innovative solution. At Protenus, I was happy to find talented people doing incredible work in healthcare. I felt very strongly that I could contribute here and would thrive in this unique environment. 

What’s your favorite part of your job?

The Protenus team really values one another and encourages each other to ask questions, listen, and provide suggestions to improve the platform. This creates an environment to learn and grow everyday. I have learned a lot within my first year of joining the company and can already see how much I’ve grown professionally during the last year. 

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned since starting at Protenus?

I’ve learned that truly putting your customers first can have a huge impact on the success of the company. Our customers’ goals and priorities drive the decisions we make as a company - no matter which team you are on.

How has working at Protenus impacted your career?

Since starting with Protenus, I have learned about the healthcare industry and gained experience working with world-class data scientists. As a young engineer, Protenus has given me the opportunity to ask questions and grow professionally in ways I could have never imagined this early in my career. Being on the team at Protenus has me excited for the future of the company as well as my career.

What has surprised you the most about working at Protenus? 

Although Protenus is still a younger company, it operates like a well-structured organization. I have been impressed by the way the Protenus leadership thinks proactively, tackles problems, and creates processes for the advancement of the company.
