Protenus Employee Values Spotlight

Matthew DiMatteo, Vice President of Sales

Our mission at Protenus is to advance the science of healthcare by bringing together creative and skilled individuals who are passionate about the security, usability, and applicability of health data. As this information becomes more voluminous, comprehensive, and, as a consequence, more vulnerable, we are building scalable, insightful solutions that address critical issues preventing the efficient, safe, and effective delivery of patient care.

Our team comprises a diverse group of people who come together to achieve this shared mission. To give a glimpse into our culture and highlight the diversity of our team, we’ve asked Matthew DiMatteo, Vice President of Sales, to share more about his experience working at Protenus.

What’s your role at Protenus, and what do you do?

My role at Protenus is to assist health systems in learning more about taking a healthcare compliance analytics approach to some of the most overlooked yet addressable issues that create undue risk and liability across the healthcare enterprise.

As a VP of Sales, I support the full lifecycle of the consideration and procurement phases. That includes listening to prospective clients' needs, learning their existing processes, and demonstrating specifically how Protenus can benefit their program.  As the initiative develops further, I support proposal presentations, technical diligence meetings, and contracting/procurement processes. My role demands an intimate understanding of client workflows, product capabilities, technological considerations, and hospital operations. I aim to be helpful, transparent, and knowledgeable with clients and prospective clients alike.

What did you do before coming to Protenus?

Before joining Protenus, I was working in the healthcare consulting space with a focus on the intersection of security, privacy, and compliance.

What initially attracted you to Protenus?

The solution itself. From there, it was more of a string of experiences over time that brought me here. Because I understood the healthcare landscape well, I was aware of the biggest compliance and technology gaps. Protenus had developed an innovative and well thought-out platform that I was truly excited about. That excitement is still with me today. Since Protenus has created such an innovative solution, there was a genuine opportunity to be helpful by applying my skillset and healthcare contacts to help the company grow.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of the job is working with such a diverse set of colleagues and healthcare stakeholders while learning from them along the way. During our sales cycles, there is often collaboration with multiple hospital leadership roles. Each of them brings a mix of experiences, views, and goals to the table. Listening to and collaborating with a team like that continually increases my knowledge about hospital operations, processes, and challenges. I view every experience I have with a prospective client as a learning opportunity for me, and I truly enjoy helping them understand what they can accomplish with Protenus.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned since starting at Protenus?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be extremely powerful and positively impactful. Before working at Protenus, like many, I was only broadly aware of the concept of Artificial Intelligence and how a few applications were leveraging it. In some cases, it seemed to be just another buzzword that tech companies built into their messaging. Although the latter may still be true at some companies, working at Protenus has made me feel extremely confident about how AI creates amazing efficiencies that would otherwise be humanly impossible.

How has working at Protenus impacted your career?

Working at Protenus has given me the continued opportunity to support healthcare while allowing me to learn from so many reputable organizations and stakeholders. It gives me the opportunity to collaborate with some really smart and dedicated resources.

What has surprised you the most about working at Protenus?

I’ve never worked for a company that attracts such great employees. Across every facet of the organization, there are extremely talented people with a shared vision of success. When I started at Protenus, it was a small group of these folks, and I wouldn’t have imagined how it would scale over time. Now, we are 400% bigger in size, and every new hire continues to impress me.

In 10 words or less, how would you describe the culture at Protenus?

Innovative, progressive, inclusive, and fun.
