The IDN's report-driven manual patient privacy monitoring process severely limited the number of cases its compliance team could accurately review, leaving the organization open to massive reputational, financial, and clinical risk. The team sought to incorporate technology that could help them review all system accesses and resolve cases faster, without increasing headcount.
The Solution
The IDN partnered with Protenus to switch to a comprehensive artificial intelligence (AI)-driven strategy to mitigate risk and stretch existing resources further, which included implementing Protenus’ Patient Privacy Monitoring solution.
The Results
Implemented in 2020, Protenus’ Patient Privacy Monitoring solution delivered immediate ROI and dramatic cost savings. With the ability to review up to 100% of system accesses, the IDN saw:
- 2700%+ increase in cases reviewed
- 86% decrease in average case resolution time
In the first year, the customer’s compliance team increased the number of cases reviewed by over 1,000 percent, from 106 cases reviewed manually to 1,190 cases reviewed with the AI-powered solution. In the second year, cases reviewed increased an additional 153 percent. The average case resolution time dropped by 75 percent in the first year, from around four months to just over a month. It decreased again in 2021 to just over 17 days.
