There are many things that need to be done to prepare for the new year, and selecting the best conferences to attend is an important step to using your time wisely. If you're looking for an opportunity to collaborate with fellow executives at leading healthcare institutions, understand why protecting patient data matters to your organization, and learn about the future of health IT and analytics, the conferences below are are a must. We’ve done our homework and present the top privacy conferences for the C-suite in 2017.
Better understand your organization's approach to protecting patient data by reviewing our Patient Privacy Primer - knowing where your organization is today can help you better prepare for the year ahead.
HIMSS17
This conference is HIMSS’ largest event of the year, so it might seem like a no-brainer. With an amalgam of leading innovators, policy makers, and thought leaders in attendance, it’s particularly well-suited for top decision-makers who want to hear about the cutting-edge of Health IT. The Privacy, Security, and Cybersecurity education topics are sure to cover the latest advances in preventing and mitigating an organization's risk of a breach to patient data - a topic that should be a priority for your institution.
The CIO Forum, happening on the first day of the conference, is meant to address specific challenges CIOs face. It will address necessary skills for health IT leaders to bring change in their institutions and review current trends, threats, and responses to maintain effective cybersecurity capabilities. This event is a must-attend!
There is even a session from the CMIO of Johns Hopkins Medicine that compares traditional and innovative approaches for HIPAA violation identification and identifies ways to define appropriate and inappropriate user access to patient data. When a world-renowned hospital like Hopkins presents innovative ways to approach HIPAA violation detection, it's not a session you can afford to miss.
HIMSS17 will be held February 19-23, 2017 in Orlando, Florida.
AHIMA
Information is one of the most critical - and also most dangerously undervalued - assets in healthcare. The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) understands this discrepancy and is leveraging this fact by bringing together healthcare decision-makers and influencers under one roof. AHIMA's annual conference, happening next fall, will focus on new ways healthcare executives can inspire, innovate, and lead their organizations into the future of health data analytics, informatics, and information governance. AHIMA will provide valuable educational presentations, panel discussions, and open forums from some of the top names in healthcare.
This conference will take place October 7-11, 2017 in Los Angeles, CA. Be on the lookout for more details in the coming months.
HITRUST
HISTRUST (Health Information Trust Alliance) has been dedicated to addressing issues of information security in healthcare since 2007. It's perhaps best known for its Common Security Framework, which has become a top certification for healthcare information security. Its deep industry knowledge and top-tier reputation make its conference a place to meet leaders in patient privacy and learn about recent advances.
The annual conference will occur May 8-11, 2017 in Grapevine, TX. It covers cybersecurity preparedness, risk management, privacy protection issues, and more with some session particularly enticing titles from the 2016 conference including "One Phish, Two Phish, Three!" and "Putting the Pieces Together: Leveraging Current Audits to Solve the HITRUST Puzzle."
